How to use GDTF Builder

  1. Upload an MA3 patch file (.xmlp), Avolites personality (.d4), ChamSys head file (.hed), or type a channel list manually
  2. Select your fixture type (Moving Head / Static)
  3. Click Generate GDTF and download the file
  4. Copy the .gdtf file to your fixture library:
USB: USB stick root > fixture types folder
    PC: C:\ProgramData\MALightingTechnology\gma3_library\fixturetypes
  5. In MA3, go to Patch > Fixture Types and refresh the library
  6. Your fixture should appear — patch and go!

Not perfect. But a lifesaver when you need it.

These profiles won't always be flawless — a channel set can land wrong, an attribute can need a nudge. But when the fixture is in the rig, doors are in twenty minutes and the manufacturer has never published a GDTF, this gets you patched and programming instead of building a profile by hand. Check your attributes and verify anything critical before the show — you can review and edit the output on GDTF Share.
